Basketball Wall Street: “Rutgers Women’s Basketball 2020 & Beyond”

2020 Commitments

Diamond Johnson 5-5 (Point Guard) Pennsylvania
Olivia Martino 6-0 (Guard) Maryland
Chyna Cornwell 6-3 (Forward) North Carolina
Sakima Walker 6-4 (Post) Ohio
Erica Lafayette 6-0 (Wing) Louisiana

Coach C Vivian Stringer and the Rutgers Women’s Basketball coaching staff have done a great job on the recruiting trails in an interesting 2020 class, that has been altered because of the volume of players in the newly implemented NCAA transfer portal. Never-the-less, the staff has managed to recruit on a national level without having to dip into the pool of Juco, International, or transfer players.

Cornwell, is a mobile, skilled, big forward that will surprise some opposing coaches in the Big Ten. While she is ranked No.62 in HoopGurlz, she was probably under recruited because she didn’t play on a major AAU platform coming out of nondescript, Conover Newton High School in North Carolina.

Johnson and Martino are experienced and battle tested guards, in prep and AAU basketball, both prospects come from the Boo Williams Travel Club Program based in Virginia.

Walker, a strong post player, comes from mid-west public power, Columbus Africentric High School. Lafayette, the Baker native, is an athletic, slashing wing out of McKinley Senior High School in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area.

Coach Stringer is in good health, and it is great to have her back on the sidelines because she means so much to women’s basketball. Look for the Rutgers Women’s Basketball Team to have a strong showing this season and in years to come in the Big Ten Conference and beyond.
