Basketball Wall Street: ” Kaelynn Satterfield is Focused & Ready for the H.S. Season”

By Silverio Ford

As we enter the fall and winter seasons it is back to school time. That means high school basketball is right around the corner. Rising junior Kaelynn Satterfield is a standout prospect that is eager to lead her Christ the King H.S.-(Middle Village, N.Y.) basketball team to a strong season. The 6-foot-1 Bronx native is a versatile player with a multifaceted skill-set. She is a guard prospect that can impact a game by rebounding, defending and scoring from the perimeter or in the paint. Her ball-handling and passing skills are at an elite level to go along with her personality as a strong leader.  “I traveled a lot when I was younger due to my father being on the road. I was born in Manhattan, but grew up in both Manhattan and the Bronx, its pretty cool getting recognition from people in both boroughs.” “As a player I offer a lot because I’m so versatile being able to play a number of different positions.”

Growing up in New York City is a challenging real-world experience and education in and of itself, diversity is something New Yorkers embrace and live with on a daily basis. It requires an insurmountable amount of focus and dedication to come out of the city as a successful student-athlete and Satterfield is right on track balancing both very well sporting a 3.5 grade-point-average in the classroom. She is proud of her Puerto Rican heritage and all of the rich culture that comes along with it. Kaelynn is also sensitive to the death and damages done by the recent hurricane Maria disaster in Puerto Rico. “I like a couple of things about my Puerto Rican side of the family, I mean obviously you have to love the food because its just the absolute best. But I just love the island its truly beautiful. But right now my family is going through a lot due to the damages have done to my great grand fathers home. I am keeping all the families that were affected by it in my prayers.”If the name Satterfield sounds familiar it is because Kaelynn is the daughter of former N.B.A player and New York City basketball legend Kenny Satterfield. With strong bloodlines and intangibles as a player, she has proven herself as a top prospect in the class of 2019 playing against the highest level of AAU competition in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League with the New Jersey Sparks travel club. “She is one of the best all around players in the country. She has no limit to her all around game. She can pass, shoot, rebound, post-up, and break you down off the dribble. At 6’1″ there is not too many players in the country that can do what she does.” Says New Jersey Sparks coach Keith Gilchrist. At this point, she holds legitimate scholarship offers from Atlantic Coast, Big East and Big Ten conference schools just to name a few.  “A couple of different colleges are recruiting me but my main focus right now is staying on top of my grades and preparing for the season.” Satterfield averaged 17.3-PPG and 6.2-RPG last season but the points and stats mean nothing to her without winning a Catholic High School Athletic Association Championship. Look for her to have a great showing this 2017-18 season. “This season at Christ the King I am going to make sure my team wins it all. I want a ring or two before I graduate.”
